Water heaters have come a long way from a big pot of water on a burner. Tank, tankless, and hybrid heat-pump models are all available — but picking the wrong one for your home, your water, or your well system can cost you real money. Here's what to know.
But just how Green is Green? Some new tankless models may actually be less efficient than the old heater you currently have in your home.
Which is best for you? There is no one answer, much depends on the size of your home, the condition of your water, the condition and size of your plumbing supply system, if you have a drilled well or sand point, available floor space and the volume of combustible air available. New tankless heaters also need to factor the incoming water temperatures and pressures.
Do you have a manufactured or mobile home with a gas water heater that needs replacing? You'll probably need to purchase a direct vent water heater. The sale heaters at the home center stores are not designed for closed spaces and can be a hazard if used.
Making a wrong or uninformed choice can cost you. Not sure which heater fits your home, your well, or your space? Call before you buy. It takes five minutes, and the call is free.
